The Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) is informing the public that, during April, pursuant to the Law No. 97/2013 “On Audiovisual Media in the Republic of Albania”, as amended, it has undertaken a series of controls against television piracy phenomenon.
A total of 30 inspections were carried out in the areas where we have received information for television piracy.
These checks were mainly conducted in the regions of Korça, Dibra, Fier, Elbasan, and Vlora and they will continue in other areas of the country.
These controls found four subject that were carrying out activities unauthorized by AMA.
In these cases, the equipment was seized, while in two cases, the subjects were sentenced to a fine of ALL 5 million.
In the case of seven operators that had authorization, but were broadcasting unlicensed programs, they were sentenced to an administrative fine of ALL 1 to 2 million.
For other subjects, the broadcasting contracts are under scrutiny.
AMA want to take avail of this opportunity to make an appeal to all audiovisual operators to respect the contracts signed with the copyright holders and to respect the service delivery areas which they are entitled under authorization.
The Authority is bound and determined to put an end to such negative phenomenon which is harming the private entities, the state budget, and fair competition in the audiovisual market.
AMA is herein informing all the parties that it is commitment to continue following this objective.
