The enhancement of the media and its role in creating a conscious society was the main topic of the two-day summit organized by the Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council, RTUK, in Ankara. With the participation of high level representatives from regional regulatory bodies, researches, media professionals, and figures from academia and politics, the summit served as a platform for discussions on current media-related issues, challenges that today extend beyond regulation to the very nature of media communication itself.
Invited to be part of the panel on “The effects of harmful media content on society and proposed solutions”, Ms. Rrapollari delivered a presentation on the current state of the media landscape, the negative phenomena that have emerged alongside technological development, their impact on the public and addressed the audience’s interest by proposing potential solutions to cleanse virtual spaces, and beyond, of harmful media content.
At the panel moderated by the Vice Chair of RTUK, Deniz Guler, participants included the lawyer and writer Bahadır Yenişehirlioglu, the Secretary General of Azerbaijan’s regulatory authority (ACRA), Fazil Novruzov and the Vice President of Serbia’s Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), Sasa Simovic.
“Media shapes our perception, our lifestyle, our social structure and the way we make decisions. Therefore, media is important because it’s one of the most powerful structures influencing how we think, feel, and act”, said Rrapollari as she analyzed the negative phenomena currently observed in media platforms and the professional elements that need to be strengthened.
The discussions emphasized that, as a medium which shapes the structure of social thought and the values evaluation, it’s essential for the media to act responsibly and professionally.
On the second day of the summit, the “Digital Poster” competition winners organized by RTUK with the aim of promoting a more productive and critical media environment, were also announced.
