The Audiovisual Media Authority’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, has immediately reacted following the broadcast of footage from today’s accident in the Kënetë neighborhood of Durrës, in which two children lost their lives and another remains in critical condition. According to her, the airing of such material does not constitute journalism, but rather an abuse. Below is her full statement.
Enough! What is happening is not journalism – it’s an abuse of human suffering. It’s not information when violence, tragedy and misfortune are turned into a hunger for clicks.
To “kill” and re-kill, to reopen wounds and to feed the public with cries of pain and human shock is a grave violation of ethics and of every professional standard.
Journalists and media executives, you bear responsibility! You are not merely news transmitters – you are shapers of the public conscience. Every irresponsible word harms, every exaggerated headline damages, every crossed boundary erodes trust in You!
Respect dignity. Protect victims. Share information, not trauma.
If journalism loses its humanity, it loses everything.
