AMA’s Chair, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, participated in a forum organized by UBT University in Pristina on World Press Freedom Day.
With the presence of Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, Besnik Berisha from the Independent Media Commission of Kosovo, communication professors such as Prof. Dr. Ferid Selimi, KTV Editor-in-Chief Brikenda Rexhepi, as well as authors, media representatives and students, the forum focused on the importance of professional ethics in journalism.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, emphasized the need to deepen the discussion on professional ethics in journalism, emphasizing that this issue is not merely academic, but constitutes a fundamental element in the functioning of a democratic society.
AMA’s Chair, Ms. Armela Krasniqi stated that ethics in the media is both a duty and a challenge in an era marked by rapid technological advancement and media transformation. “The press should be free, because only a free press fosters healthy citizens”, AMA’s Chair said, among other remarks.
During this discussion, the Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communication at UBT, Prof. Dr. Ferid Selimi, stated that ethics is one of the fundamental pillars in the professional development of communication students and that UBT is committed to preparing responsible journalists through modern curricula and training programs.
A really important message emerged from this forum for professionals and students who are about to graduate: Ethics in journalism is not a luxury, but a necessity. Freedom of expression and responsibility must go hand in hand, for a freer, fairer and more professional media.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated annually on May 3rd. This day was declared by UNESCO and the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 to promote press freedom and to honor journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
