The Chair of AMA, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, welcomed today the President of the Polish National Radio and Television Council (KRRiT), Mr. Maciej Świrski. During the meeting held at the AMA premises, Chair Krasniqi expressed her appreciation for the new collaboration opportunities that have opened between the two regulators, the Albanian and the Polish. “This is important because I believe that only by doing so can we be successful in our work: by sharing our ideas and plans to tackle the time challenges which the authorities we lead are facing,” said Krasniqi.
During the meeting, Chair Krasniqi gave a brief overview on the work of AMA and its achievements so far, such as the approval of legal amendments and alignment with the EU Directive 2018/1808, known as the changed Audiovisual Media Services Directive, as well as further proposed changes that foresee the inclusion of the Audience Measurement concept in legislation; the fight against broadcasting rights piracy; and the continued cooperation with international partners working in the media sector, aimed at improving the quality of journalism in audiovisual media and beyond.
Krasniqi also emphasized that Audience Measurement remains a current and significant objective of AMA’s work as an incentive institution, necessary for the further regulation of the audiovisual market. Likewise, the fight against piracy, a phenomenon that has now also spread online, is a priority. “AMA will continue to strengthen and further develop established collaborations with various partners working in the media sector, to achieve shared objectives in the fight against hate speech, disinformation, etc.,” stated Krasniqi.
Additionally, the President of KRRiT, Mr. Świrski, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the main challenges that the Polish regulator is focusing on. He also expressed his willingness for a long-term and valuable collaboration for both parties. In a brief overview of the governance approach of his institution, Mr. Świrski touched upon issues currently concerning not only the Polish media market but also the international media landscape. Disinformation and the coordination of efforts among regulatory authorities to prevent malicious influence in the dissemination of information to the public were emphasized by the President of the Polish KRRiT as one of the main goals of the regulatory body he leads.
Later, the heads of the regulatory authorities signed a Cooperation Memorandum based on four key pillars:
- audience measurement
- media literacy
- public opinion research
- methodology for monitoring audiovisual content.
“We have signed an Understanding Memorandum between the two regulatory bodies of Albania and Poland, and we hope to strengthen the bridges of cooperation, and why not, exchange best practices in the regulatory field of audiovisual media,” said Krasniqi.
“The great nation of Albania deserves the truth in the media, as does Poland. The most imminent and serious threat to the truth is Russian propaganda and disinformation, and we must promote Media Literacy. Our Understanding Memorandum specifically relates to this, to Media Literacy, and, of course, the exchange of experiences in media monitoring,” expressed Swirski.
The Cooperation Memorandum paves the way for a long-term collaboration between the two institutions, both in further improving their work and in the exchange of experiences between them.
