Audiovisual Medias Authority’s Chair, Ms. Armela Krasniqi welcomed in a meeting Mr. Dmitri Moskovtsev from the Minorities Association in Estonia, along with representatives of the Estonian Ministry of Culture, Mr. Artjom Tepljuk and Ms. Julia Amor, as well as the Vice Chair of the National Minorities Committee, Mr. Sead Kazanxhiu.
During the meeting we discussed the respect for the minority rights in audiovisual broadcasts in Albania. Ms. Krasniqi explained the functioning of the institution, the legal provisions that ensure the rights and interests of National Minorities, guaranteeing access to audio and audiovisual content without discriminating based on race or ethnicity. We also discussed the minorities protection from discrimination in audio and audiovisual broadcasts.
“AMA’s monitoring and analysis teams closely observe compliance with minority rights in audiovisual content among other aspects, and the positive news is that no violations of the current legislation on minorities have been identified”, said Krasniqi.
Ensuring the minorities right to access information in their native language is not only mandated by AMA’s organic law and the Broadcasting Code but is also part of the Authority’s periodic monitoring of RTSH broadcasts, to ensure that minority language programs are available and that they comply with the applicable legislation.
