International conference on “The Representation of Women in Media,” Krasniqi: Gender representation in Albania is balanced

AMA’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, participated in the proceedings of the international conference organized by the Turkish regulator, RTUK, held in Ankara, with the topic “The Representation of Women in Media.”

She addressed the conference alongside the RTUK President, Mr. Ebubekir Şahin, Ms. Çiğdem Erdoğan Atabek, Turkish Grand National Assembly Head of the Commission for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, a member of the Turkish Republic Radio and Television Supreme Council as well as the leader of this project, Ms. Deniz Guçer.

“The media and women are always a topic worth discussing and there are always improvements to be made, adjustments to consider, and ways to influence so that balance is achieved. Then, there are the challenges of our time. Technology, an audience that is both a content producer and a consumer. There is the danger of online bullying, that fine line between violating rights and freedom of speech. And even here, women remain vulnerable, in how they’re treated and how the audience addresses them,” said Ms. Krasniqi in her speech.

The discussion on the Women & Media dynamic, whether as professionals, experts, or in the way media portrays women is complex and a global conversation.

“In the highly dynamic Albanian media landscape, gender representation in media is balanced. Data published annually in AMA’s Periodic Bulletin, which compiles and analyzes key developments in Albania’s audiovisual market, show that women are present in the media at satisfactory levels. However, if we take the discussion further, it is evident that not only has technological development brought concerns of this nature, but the media itself faces many challenges worth discussing when it comes to how women are treated” – emphasized AMA’s Chair.

At the international conference organized by the Turkish regulator RTUK, a range of issues related to the representation of women in the media were discussed.

According to Krasniqi, the findings presented at this conference and the topics discussed are highly relevant and important and moreover, they require everyone’s contribution to ensure that the solutions meet the appropriate standards.
