Berat was the first destination of the roundtable discussion tour initiated by the Chair of AMA, Armela Krasniqi, aimed at face-to-face discussions on current concerns with legitimate cable operators across all regions of the country.
Under the theme “Co-regulation as a tool in the fight against piracy,” the tour made its first stop in Berat, where the main topic of discussion with legal representatives of cable operators operating in this district was piracy.
Pirate transmissions of audiovisual content by unlicensed entities are one of the main concerns of the audiovisual market and one of the key objectives of AMA’s work. With the development of technology, cases of piracy have increased, mostly committed by ISP entities that, in addition to providing internet services, also offer audiovisual content illegally. This has naturally become both a problem and a concern for legitimate operators who have been active in the market for years, adhering to the existing regulations and legislation.
This was also the primary concern raised by operators during the roundtable organized by AMA. They expressed their willingness to act as co-regulators in the market to prevent abusers, while the piracy phenomenon is prevented in the future.
“Piracy has always been one of the main objectives of our work,” said the Chair of AMA, Armela Krasniqi, during the meeting. “AMA supports honest entities, that’s why we will stand by you in the fight against this phenomenon. We have prepared the proposals for changes to the organic law of AMA, which we will soon present to the Parliament, where piracy and the fight against it will play a crucial role. Being aware that technology has increased both the methods and the number of cases of pirate audiovisual content transmissions, we have proposed stricter measures to mitigate this troubling phenomenon as much as possible.”
One of these measures is the proposal that, in cases of identified offenders, if they do not respond to the AMA’s request to stop pirate broadcasts within 30 minutes, sanctioning measures will be enforced. These and other proposals for changes to the law were discussed at the first roundtable, which has paved the way for new cooperation in the future with all operators that comply with the law in the Albanian audiovisual market.
