The Chair of AMA, Ms. Armela Krasniqi was awarded the “Icon of Appreciation” for the “SPEAK ALBANIAN” initiative that AMA launched one year ago. At the start of the new television season, during an event organized by RTV21 and the “Fol Shqip Show” program, with the participation of personalities from Albania, Kosovo, and Diaspora, AMA was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
The “Speak Albanian” initiative, which aims to preserve the purity of the Albanian language, was launched by AMA in response to the widespread phenomenon of using unnecessary foreign words, not only in everyday life but also in the media. Very quickly, linguists and journalists joined this initiative, not only by just supporting it but also contributing to it with their expertise.
A part of this support includes the collaboration with Altin Marku’s program, the creator of “Fol Shqip Show,” which airs in Kosovo and North Macedonia. In every episode, the findings of AMA regarding the use of unnecessary foreign words in the media and their corresponding Albanian equivalents are highlighted.
For the contribution and purpose of this initiative, it was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation.
“Language is our identity and one of our most valuable assets, so it is our duty to cherish and protect it. We joined forces with Altin so that AMA’s findings regarding unnecessary foreign words would also be presented in his program, so that everyone, whenever they use an unnecessary foreign word, will be reminded that it has its equivalent in Albanian,” said AMA Chair Ms. Armela Krasniqi at the ceremony for receiving the Icon of Appreciation.
The initiative of the Audiovisual Media Authority has also been supported by renowned linguists in the country. In addition to the monitoring done by AMA’s teams, the Authority also collaborates with linguist Adelina Qosja Çerpja from the Institute of Linguistics and Literature at the Academy of Sciences, who shares with her findings on the incorrect use of language forms, along with their correct usage.
