Elbasan and Vlora have been the next districts where the series of discussion roundtables has taken place, initiated by the Chair of AMA, Armela Krasniqi. The aim of these discussions is to directly address current concerns with legal cable operators in all districts across the country.
Following the same approach: “Co-regulation as a tool in the fight against piracy,” after Berat, the tour made its stops in Elbasan and Vlora. The main topic of discussion with the legal representatives of cable operators operating in these districts, who were present at the meeting, was piracy, as well as the legal changes that AMA has long initiated. After the conclusion of the public consultation, these changes will be sent to the Parliament for approval. The discussions with the authorized entities for retransmitting audiovisual content focused on these changes. They welcomed with optimism the provision that mandates the termination of pirate broadcasts within 30 minutes, and if the entity fails to comply, it will be considered a violator or co-violator of Law 97/2013.
Pirate broadcasts of audiovisual content by entities not licensed by AMA are one of the main concerns in the audiovisual market and a key focus of AMA’s work. With the advancement of technology, cases of piracy have increased, mostly carried out by ISPs who, in addition to providing internet services, illegally offer audiovisual content. This has naturally become a problem and a concern for the legitimate entities that have operated in the market for years, adhering to the existing rules and legislation.
This has also been the primary concern raised by operators in all the roundtable discussions organized by AMA so far. Cable operators authorized by AMA have expressed their willingness to act as co-regulatory factors in the market to stop the abusers and to ensure that piracy practices are prevented in the future.
