The Chairwoman of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, participated in the “Pyet” Journalism Festival, a new initiative that brought together media professionals, academics and students to discuss the challenges and future of journalism.
The festival, conceived by young journalist Ms. Kristi Gongo, became a space for reflection on the mission of journalism today, news verification, the challenges of online media and the steps needed to improve professional standards.
In her speech, Ms. Krasniqi emphasized AMA’s role in strengthening journalism standards and providing concrete support for initiatives that contribute to the development of the Albanian media landscape. She highlighted that the institution has funded important research projects carried out by Professors Mr. Artan Fuga and Mr. Mark Marku, as well as by the “5 Pyetjet” center, which were presented during the festival.
According to AMA’s Chairwoman, the institution has decided to allocate dedicated funds on an annual basis to support non-governmental organizations operating in the journalism field. In the past three years alone, 26 projects have been supported, addressing key topics such as journalistic ethics, the impact of social media, the fight against disinformation, journalist safety, prevention of hate speech, media freedom and digital transformation.
In conclusion, Ms. Krasniqi emphasized the profession’s essential mission: “Journalism is not measured by the speed of clicks, but by the endurance of truth”, highlighting that while algorithms decide what we see, journalism decides what truly matters to the public.
