May 11 elections, Chairwoman Ms. Krasniqi informs the delegations from the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe, the OSCE, and the European Parliament regarding the monitoring

One day before the May 11 elections, AMA’s Chair Ms. Armela Krasniqi participated in a meeting organized by OSCE with delegations from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the European Parliament (EP), as well as leaders of Albanian institutions, candidates, experts, and media representatives.

During the meeting, Ms. Krasniqi informed the participants on the monitoring carried out by AMA for the electoral process, based on the Methodology developed and approved by the CEC. AMA’s monitoring focuses on news editions, debates and forums, live event coverage, political advertisements and the electoral polls presentation.

AMA begins its elections monitoring four months before the campaign starts, by tracking activities classified as “prohibited” by the CEC. Preliminary measures include drafting and submitting to the CEC a list of audiovisual media service providers under both permanent and temporary monitoring, a total of 47 AVMSPs, a formal call to AVMSPs before the start of the campaign urging compliance with the Electoral Code requirements and conducting both group and individual training sessions for all monitors based on the Electoral Code provisions and the Monitoring Methodology. These sessions cover both the content-related aspects of the daily monitoring form completed for each AVMSPs, as well as technical aspects related to the use of the monitoring program, etc.

A delegation of 95 parliamentarians, along with their respective staff members from the OSCE, PACE and the European Parliament is currently in Tirana as May 11 elections observers. Following presentations by relevant institutions and journalists, the delegation posed additional questions and comments to gather comprehensive and balanced information about the electoral process in Albania.
