AMA monitoring role during the electoral process was the main focus in the meeting between high-level officials of the Audiovisual Media Authority and the Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) delegation, sent to Albania by the OSCE Office.
Mr. Ulvi Akhundlu, Deputy Head of the ODIHR Election Department, Mr. Kakha Inaishvili, ODIHR Election Adviser, and Mr. Sherif Abdili, representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, visited the Audiovisual Media Authority. In addition to discussing election monitoring, the meeting also addressed the regulatory role of the institution in regulating the media market.
It is worth noting that since AMA began its election monitoring duties in 2021, there have been no complaints from political entities regarding its work.
In its reports to the CEC during elections, AMA provides data identified in news editions, debate shows and forums, political advertisements, live coverage of electoral events, subtitles for news TV, prohibited activities of public institutions, and institutional advertisements.
According to AMA Chair Ms. Armela Krasniqi, the institution’s challenge in establishing a new monitoring studio was also discussed.
According to ODIHR’s standard methodology, the goal of the NAM team is to assess the pre-election environment and preparations for upcoming elections. Based on this assessment, NAM will recommend sending an ODIHR mission to observe the next parliamentary elections in our country, tailored to the identified needs.
