First day of the 63rd EPRA Meeting, Krasniqi: We are cooperating with audiovisual media service providers on the accessibility of audiovisual media services for persons with disabilities

During the second session on the first day of the 63rd Meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA), discussions focused on “Making Content Accessible to All Audiences”.

The first panel featured Daniel Casas, Senior Accessibility Policy Officer at the European Disability Forum; Elisabet Ventura, Head of Public Service, Social Purpose and Ethical Guidelines at 3Cat; and Peter Matzneller, Global Affairs Manager at Netflix.

The second panel, which featured AMA’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, Stephen Taylor, Director of Standards and Audience Protection at Ofcom, Marcel Betzel, International Policy Advisor at CvdM and Frédéric Bokobza, Deputy Director General at Arcom in France, focused on strategies to overcome accessibility barriers in the media.

AMA’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, emphasized that improving access for persons with disabilities is a fundamental human right, enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

She noted that access to linear television and online content is essential to enabling full participation in social and cultural life, as well as in public debate.

AMA’s Chairwoman further stated that the Authority is in continuous communication with licensed audiovisual media service providers, with the aim of ensuring compliance with the obligations set out in the organic law on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and enhancing their access to audiovisual services.

“In practical terms, audiovisual media service providers are working to ensure that their online services are accessible through the implementation of international standards such as WCAG 2.1, in order to promote inclusion and access for all audiences”, Krasniqi stated.
