The Chairwoman of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, presented AMA’s position during a parliamentary hearing on the draft law “On Copyright and Other Related Rights”.
During the discussion, Ms. Krasniqi emphasized that protecting creators and combating piracy require clearly defined powers, enforceable procedures and legal certainty for entities.
In this regard, AMA’s Chairwoman called for the draft law to clearly define the scope of the Copyright Directorate powers and how these powers are to be coordinated with AMA’s statutory responsibilities. Such clarity is necessary to avoid overlapping procedures, conflicting decisions and difficulties in ensuring effective judicial review.
Ms. Krasniqi also emphasized that the copyright protection should not be interpreted as an exemption from audiovisual legal obligations. Equal treatment of operators in legally comparable circumstances, as well as ensuring due safeguards for any measure affecting the media and the public, remain essential elements of effective rights protection.
AMA will contribute to improving the draft law from the audiovisual media sector perspective, with the aim of establishing a legal framework that protects creativity while providing legal certainty for the sector’s development.
