Following the successful completion of the media literacy campaign “Media Literacy for Preschool Ages”, carried out in urban kindergartens in Tirana on the Council of Complaints at the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) initiative, a new nationwide campaign has been launched, this time focused on pre-university students.
Today, AMA’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi and the Head of the Council of Complaints, Ms. Mirela Oktrova, held a discussion with students of the “Kostandin Kristoforidhi” high school in Elbasan. In the teachers and parent representatives’ presence, the discussion focused on the challenges young people face in media use, the disinformation risks, the protection of online privacy and the importance of critical thinking in the digital age.
The discussion was supported by awareness-raising materials and educational videos developed within the framework of the project “Media Competence for School-Aged Children”.
Ms. Krasniqi emphasized the importance of critical thinking and media literacy as essential elements for staying safe in the virtual world, particularly in the face of phenomena such as hate speech, misuse of personal data, online violence, harmful content and various forms of internet abuse.
She underlined that media literacy serves not only as a protective mechanism for children and young people, but also for every everyday internet user, in a reality where technology has transformed the way people communicate and live.
The campaign will be implemented across all 12 counties of the country throughout 2026. The next stop will be the “Hydajet Lezha” high school in the city of Lezhë, where, in cooperation with educational structures, the campaign will continue in the same interactive and awareness-raising format.
