Improving working conditions in the media, AMA and the Labour Inspectorate at the next roundtable. Inspection results and market challenges are discussed

Within the Memorandum of Understanding framework and the joint work plan, the Audiovisual Media Authority’s Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, held a working meeting with the General Director of the State Labour and Social Services Inspectorate, Mr. Eljo Muçaj, to discuss the progress of interinstitutional cooperation and shared priorities for the upcoming period.

The meeting focused on the progress in implementing shared objectives, the situation in the media sector for 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 and the priorities for the upcoming period.

According to data presented by the head of the Inspectorate, the media sector remains both dynamic and challenging. During 2025, complaints related to the media accounted for approximately 22% of all inspections, while 76% of these were resolved in favor of employees, a figure that highlights the inspections effectiveness and the importance of institutional cooperation in protecting labor rights.

In the first quarter of 2026, the Inspectorate handled 7 complaints from the media sector and conducted 46 planned inspections. Of the violations identified, 55% were related to the Labour Code provisions, primarily concerning employment relations; 9.3% concern legislation on mandatory social and health insurance contributions; and 29% involved working conditions, occupational safety and health.

AMA’s Chairwoman emphasized the commitment to support dialogue with media industry representatives, journalists and civil society organizations, with the aim of addressing specific concerns regarding working conditions, informality and the respect for employees’ rights in the sector.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their willingness to continue joint activities and institutional coordination to strengthen standards in the media market.
