Visit to Washington: Krasniqi at the meeting with the President of the National Press Club: Freedom of Expression, a fundamental guiding principle in our work

During her two-day visit in the United States, Ms. Krasniqi also attended the ceremony marking the election of the National Press Club’s new President, the most prominent media organization in the United States.

On this occasion, she met with well-known American media figures.

Addressing Albanian journalists, Mark Schoeff Jr., the newly elected 119th President of the National Press Club, stated: “The National Press Club, together with many organizations in Europe, supports you. We will fight to protect your right to report on Albania and to inform Albanian citizens about what is happening there and beyond”.

Thanking the organizers for the invitation, Ms. Krasniqi emphasized that freedom of expression is of great importance to the institution she leads.

The National Press Club serves as a meeting place for newsmakers and journalists in the United States. Founded in 1908, it has throughout its history been a major forum where prominent figures from the media, institutions and American and global politics have shared their views on current events with the media and the public. As the world’s leading professional organization for journalists, the mission of the National Press Club is to serve its members through professional development activities that enhance skills, services that meet the evolving needs of communication professionals and impactful social activities in the United States and worldwide.

Another stop on AMA’s Chair agenda in Washington was Johns Hopkins University, where she met with Associate Professor Edward P. Joseph and the editorial staff of the institution’s academic journal, including Editor-in-Chief Clarisa Merkatz, Editor Frank Gamez and Editorial Manager Alexandra Venegas. The discussions focused on challenges in the media market and the impact of technology. During the meeting, Chair Krasniqi outlined AMA’s regulatory work in the audiovisual media market, its adaptations to digital transformation and the concerning phenomena currently observed in the media.

SIAS is a center of influence in media expertise and diplomacy. This visit to one of the main centers of the prestigious Johns Hopkins University represents a first step toward joint regulatory studies and projects.

This marked Ms. Krasniqi’s second visit to the U.S. Department of State, following her visit in 2022.
