Roundtable on Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom in Albania, Krasniqi: These are the two main pillars of our work

SCiDEV and Faktoje.al organized a roundtable titled “Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom in Albania: Between Progress and Stagnation – Reflections on the EU 2025 Report and the Path Toward Accountability”, where participants discussed the country’s challenges and achievements in this area, as well as the priorities for 2026.

The roundtable was attended by AMA’s Chair, Armela Krasniqi; PD Member of Parliament Jorida Tabaku; the “Opportunity” Party Member of Parliament, Erald Kapri; the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Albania, Reinout Vos; along with representatives from academia, media and media organizations.

The Chair of the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), Armela Krasniqi, emphasized that Freedom of Expression and the Right to Information are the two main pillars of the institution’s work under her leadership.

“This is not only about 2025, but about our entire long-term agenda, through which we have worked to safeguard these rights. Among the most important achievements, I would highlight: the implementation of Ownership Structure Transparency and the identification of Direct and Indirect Beneficial Owners of audio and audiovisual media, with data easily accessible on AMA’s official website; functioning as a fully independent institution, as demonstrated by consensus-based decisions that have never been contested; the promotion of the Audience Measurement process; the legislative alignment with the key EU acts aimed at further regulating the audio/audiovisual market,” Krasniqi emphasized.

AMA’s Chair further underlined that the institution will continue with the same commitment to advancing the processes already underway, as well as to contributing in every area that supports its mission to protect and promote media and expression freedom in the country.

Participants shared views and exchanged ideas on the key points of the European Union’s 2025 Report, focusing on freedom of expression and the right to information as fundamental rights of citizens.
