The Audiovisual Media Authority Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, had a meeting with the Head of the OSCE Presence in Tirana, Ambassador Mr. Michel Tarran, to discuss the latest developments in the audiovisual sector and to reaffirm the close cooperation between the two institutions.
The main focus of the discussion was the progress made in strengthening media ownership transparency, particularly following the adoption of amendments to the Law “On Audiovisual Media in the Republic of Albania” by the Parliament. Mr. Tarran praised AMA’s work, describing the legal amendments as an important step that enhances accountability and strengthens pluralism and the integrity of the media sector.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of establishing the media ownership register for audiovisual media service providers, as a key instrument for ensuring sector credibility. In addition, AMA’s role in promoting Media Literacy and protecting the public, especially young people, from harmful content was discussed.
The parties also discussed further strengthening AMA’s monitoring capacities, including monitoring during electoral periods and agreed on additional technical and institutional support in line with OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.
In conclusion, it was emphasized that the OSCE remains a strategic partner for AMA in the alignment process with European standards, with the aim of strengthening media freedom and fostering an independent and transparent media environment in Albania.
