The Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), in close cooperation with the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the State Police, has successfully carried out another targeted operation against audiovisual piracy, identifying and stopping illegal activity in Kukës. During field inspections, conducted in accordance with AMA’s legal competencies to monitor and prevent unauthorized broadcastings, it was discovered that an individual was illegally operating an OTT server. This server, accessible via the public IP address 37.26.87.221, was distributing television content from paid platforms without holding the necessary broadcasting rights.
The illegally shared content included well-known national and international channels, such as:
SuperSport and Tring Sport;
Arena Sport 1, 2, 3, 4;
Eleven Sport 1, 2, 3, 4.
The investigation revealed that the same individual had continued the illegal activity despite a previous administrative sanction imposed by AMA, a fine amounting to 5 million ALL. This repeated violation reflects a defiant stance toward the law and causes significant harm to legitimate media operators who conduct their business in compliance with market regulations and copyright laws. The case has now been referred for criminal prosecution under Article 180 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Albania, which prohibits unregistered or illegal commercial activity.
AMA emphasizes that this is not an isolated case, but part of a series of ongoing interventions by the Authority to crack down on illegal networks that undermine property rights and market fairness in the audiovisual sector. Monitoring and penalizing such practices remains a continuous priority for AMA, in close cooperation with law enforcement institutions.
