Men employees dominate the Albanian media market. Data collected from market operators for 2023, published in the Periodic Bulletin, shows that men make up the highest percentage of employees in television, radio, and cable sectors.
Specifically, in television, the gender ratio is 40% women and 60% men; in radio, 41% of employees are women and 59% men; while in cable, the difference is even larger, with 31% women and 69% men employees.
However, the gender balance shifts when we look specifically at employed journalists. In television, women journalists dominate, making up 58% of the workforce. On the other hand, radio still has a majority of men among journalists, with 56% journalists that are men.
The data is provided by audio and audiovisual market entities, and after processing, it is published in the Periodic Bulletin of the AMA, which is also available online: https://ama.gov.al/ova_dep/buletini-periodik/
