The Audiovisual Media Authority Chairwoman met in Kosovo with the Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Media Commission, Mr. Niman Racaj, IMC member Fitim Veliu and other officials of Kosovo’s media regulator to discuss the current challenges of the media market.
The meeting addressed key regulatory processes, including the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA) transposition into Albanian legislation, as well as the alignment of these acts with Kosovo’s legal framework.
Another important issue discussed at the meeting was the regulation of video-sharing platforms. AMA’s chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, informed participants that in 2023 AMA incorporated these platforms into the Law “On Audiovisual Media in the Republic of Albania”, as amended, and in parallel adopted the Regulation on “General Principles and Specific Requirements for Video-Sharing Platforms”.
“We are currently fully engaged in inter-institutional processes to align Albanian legislation with the Digital Services Act, as the most appropriate legal instrument for regulating the virtual media environment”, Krasniqi stated.
Television piracy was also part of the discussions, as a matter concern for all regulators, therefore, the exchange of experiences among regulators is of great importance.
