Today, at the Audiovisual Media Authority premises, a meeting was held with high level executives of audiovisual media service providers to consult on the draft law “On the release of Digital Dividend II (DD2) Frequencies”. AMA’s Chair, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, invited the operators affected by the release of the 700 MHz band, with the aim to harmonize spectrum use in line with European Union practices and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendations.
Based on these obligations, Albania is currently preparing, through the frequency bands reallocation for Audiovisual Media Service Providers, who will transition to lower frequencies, to make way for telecommunication services, as required by new technological requirements.
Today, together with audiovisual media service providers executives, we discussed the conditions of this transition, as set out in the draft law under public consultation.
Meanwhile, the National Frequency Plan, approved by the Government in December 2024, foresees the completion of the release process by the end of 2025. This process requires the establishment of a compensation scheme for operators that must move below the 700 MHz band, as this transition will bring changes to the national broadcasting network, transmission coverage areas, etc. amounting to new investments for national operators
