Alignment of Albanian legislation with EU standards, AMA’s team holds meeting with international expert Martin Dorociak

The Audiovisual Media Authority’s team, led by AMA’s Chairwoman, Armela Krasniqi, held a meeting with international legal expert Martin Dorociak as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professional capacities and align Albania’s regulatory framework with European Union standards.

The engagement of expert Martin Dorociak was made possible through a project of the OSCE Presence in Albania, aimed at strengthening media freedom and governance in the country.

Also attending the meeting were AMA’s Secretary General Ronelda Rapollari and Cabinet Director Alida Cenaj.

During the meeting with AMA’s teams, discussions focused on several key issues related to recent developments in the media sector, including influencer and advertising transparency, the advertising volume displayed in split-screen format and media ownership transparency.

These issues were examined in relation to Albania’s current regulatory framework and its alignment with European developments and standards. The discussions referred, among others, to the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), and the Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as other European Union instruments.

According to AMA’s Chairwoman, Armela Krasniqi, this cooperation aims to contribute to the development of a more transparent, effective, independent regulatory framework aligned with European standards.

Krasniqi highlighted the importance of the meeting in gaining a more concrete understanding of new developments in the media landscape and changes in European legislation, which are expected to be reflected in Albania’s legal framework as well.

“Legal alignment and the transposition of key European legislation into our national framework are among the main pillars of AMA’s work”, said Krasniqi , while also emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation with the OSCE Presence in Albania.

According to Krasniqi, the OSCE’s support over the years has not been limited to individual activities or projects, but has also encompassed broader processes aimed at bringing Albania’s institutions, legislation and regulatory practices closer to European standards.

The meeting with the international expert comes as part of the process of aligning Albanian legislation with that of the European Union, while technological developments and changes in media consumption are creating new challenges for the audiovisual sector regulation.
