The Audiovisual Media Authority Chairwoman, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, has responded to the publication of a video depicting violence against a minor girl, calling on both media outlets and the public to refrain from contributing to the dissemination of such footage. Her full statement as below:

For several hours, recently recorded footage containing explicit scenes of extreme violence and the bullying of a girl by two other girls has been circulating on social media and online platforms.

We urge caution regarding any violent content related to the serious incident published on social media. Today alone, in response to complaints received from the public concerning violent content shared on TikTok, a platform with which we cooperate, we have reported 3 videos, all of which have since been removed. Additional reports are currently under review by the platform.

Given that such material from social media and online platforms often finds its way onto television screens, even when broadcast in order to condemn acts of violence and bullying, we call on all editorial teams to act with professionalism and adhere to the ethical standards in their coverage of this serious and deeply concerning incident.

This case must not be exploited for sensationalism or to generate clicks. Instead, every effort must be made to protect the victim from being identified, in line with the principle of the best interests of the child and with the legal obligation to safeguard the privacy and identity of all minors involved.

STOP sharing and disseminating violence!

Violence breeds violence!

We can all contribute to help prevent further psychological harm to the victim, who is already experiencing severe trauma.

AMA continues to monitor content broadcast by audiovisual media service providers to identify any violations of Law No. 97/2013, as well as the Broadcasting Code.

Any violations identified will be addressed in accordance with the applicable legislation.
