Within the framework of the EU–Albania Stabilisation and Association Agreement, the 17th meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security was held today in Brussels, where the Audiovisual Media Authority was represented by its Chair, Ms. Armela Krasniqi.
During the meeting, AMA presented concrete progress in strengthening institutional independence, regulatory efficiency and the judicial sustainability of its decision-making, as well as the steps taken toward full alignment with the European framework, including the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA).
The meeting also highlighted the adoption of the January 2026 legal amendments on media ownership transparency, considered an important step toward strengthening pluralism and ensuring a transparent and competitive media market.
AMA’s Chair presented to the European Commission representatives the progress achieved by AMA in advancing freedom of expression, including:
Strengthening the regulator’s independence
Audiovisual media ownership structures transparency
Financial independence
Increasing transparency in the allocation of state advertising funds
Improving regulatory efficiency and the judicial sustainability of AMA’s decision-making
Strengthening and expanding public trust in AMA
Steps undertaken toward full alignment with the European framework, including the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA)
AMA’s participation in this forum reaffirms its sustained commitment to the European integration process and to consolidating rule of law standards in the media sector.
