Concern for the respect of intellectual property rights
Chairman of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Mr. Gentian Sala held on Tuesday, 11.10.2016, held a working meeting with Mr. Donald E. Townsend, from Foreign Commercial Service of the US/ Patents and Trademarks Office of US. The main focus was the situation in Albanian audiovisual market regarding AAMSP’s for the respect of intellectual property rights in broadcasting.
As it was noted also at the beginning of the meeting, currently by some of the country ‘s main AAMP’s is ascertained that there is stealth and abuses of the emitted contents, by violating intellectual property rights of their holders. Participants discussed the serious situation of violation of the laws for protection of intellectual property and expressed the necessity of implementation of the legal framework in force.
AMA’s Chairman during the meeting expressed that AMA has inherited a number of problems carried on for years, including basic aspects of AAMSP’s activity, such as non payment for a long time of the financial obligations, non respect of the frequency spectrum and the cable operators piracy, for which it is evident that in about 1 year and a half there is improved performance from operators based in legislation and indicators. It is time to commit on normalising the situation of the carried issue of respecting the intellectual property rights.
Mr. Sala and Mr. Townsend discussed possible ways of cooperation for the achievement of the standards for the respect of the intellectual property, which constitutes one of the conditions of our country European integration process.
