AMA continues its media literacy campaign with “28 Nëntori” High School students in Shkodër

As part of the “Media Literacy for School-Age Children” campaign, the Chairwoman of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Ms. Armela Krasniqi, together with the Head of the Council of Complaints, Ms. Mirela Oktrova, held a meeting with “28 Nëntori” High School students in Shkodër. The meeting focused on the importance of media literacy and the challenges associated with the use of technology and communication in the digital environment.
During the discussion with the students, we explored how technology has transformed the way people communicate and access information, as well as the need to develop critical thinking skills to navigate the daily influx of online content.
Ms. Krasniqi stated that media literacy is essential in helping young people better understand the digital environment, critically evaluate the information they consume, and make informed and responsible choices when using the internet.
She also emphasized that, alongside the many opportunities offered by technology, its use entails certain risks, including hate speech, the misuse of personal data, online violence and exposure to harmful content. For this reason, raising awareness among young people and ensuring they have access to ongoing information are essential to creating a safer digital environment.
A special message was conveyed to the students on the importance of reporting cases in which their rights and dignity are violated online. They were encouraged not to remain silent when faced with inappropriate or abusive content, but to report such cases to the Authority through its official website, www.ama.gov.al.
The “Media Literacy for School-Age Children” campaign will continue throughout the current academic year in various cities across Albania, with the aim of fostering critical thinking among students, promoting the responsible use of technology, and raising awareness of their rights and responsibilities in the digital space.
AMA expresses its gratitude for the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the National Agency for Pre-University Education, and the Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre-University Education, as well as to the teachers and students of “28 Nëntori” High School in Shkodër.
