The second day of the 2026 UNESCO Global Conference on Digital Platform Governance took place in Pretoria, South Africa. At its core was the idea of strengthening international cooperation and building a sustainable global framework focused on upholding human rights in the digital space.
Ms. Krasniqi led the Albanian delegation, accompanied by AMA’s Secretary General, Ms. Ronelda Rapollari and the Director of the Cabinet, Ms. Alida Cenaj.
During the thematic panels, participants emphasized the importance of establishing a unified system that ensures transparency, accountability and the protection of freedom of expression on online platforms. Discussions focused on analyzing current developments, achievements and challenges related to digital space regulation and guaranteeing a safe and inclusive information environment.
At the heart of the debate was the need to strengthen cooperation among states, international organizations and private sector actors in order to ensure a more coordinated approach to platform governance. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of promoting media pluralism as a fundamental pillar of democracy and open societies.
One of the most discussed topics was the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming the media and digital landscape, where participants shared views on the need for responsible policies and monitoring mechanisms to ensure the ethical and fair use of this technology.
The conference continued with additional thematic sessions aimed at drafting concrete recommendations for building a global framework for digital governance, with a central focus on human beings and their fundamental rights.
