Agron Gjekmarkaj has a degree in Literature obtained in 1996 from the University of Tirana, Faculty of History and Philology. In 2005 he graduated in Literature Majoring at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy at La Sapienza University in Rome, with “Excellent” results.
He currently is a lecturer at the Faculty of History and Philology at the State University of Tirana in the subject of “Press History”, “History of Civilizations” and “Italian Literature”. After undergraduate studies, he began collaborating with the print media. Since 1996, he has worked as Editor of the Cultural Magazine “Hylli i Dritës”. In 1996 he was editor of the newspaper “Ora e Shqipërisë”. Since 2004 he has collaborated with some Albanian daily newspapers as editorialist and opinionist and since 2011 continues to be an editorialist of the “Panorama” newspaper. Between 2000 and 2005 he was a collaborator of “The Albanian World” newspaper, with its headquarter in Rome. He contributed as a consultant and editorialist, while collaborating at the same time with Vatican Radio in the consultant role.
From 2005 to 2007 he was an Advisor to the Minister of Culture for Cultural Policies. Following that, from 2007 to 2008 he became Director of Arts and Letters at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Tirana. In the period between 2007 and 2010 he was a member of the National Literature Prize Jury at the same Ministry. From 2006 to 2008 he was also a Member of the Scientific Council of the National Library. Mr. Gjekmarkaj has held the position of Assistant to the President of the Republic from 2008 to 2009.
Mr. Gjekmarkaj has frequently participated in national and international scientific conferences on literature studies and has published a series of works such as “La fantastica letteratura di Kadare” published in 2012, ” Kështu foli Zef Pllumi me gazetarë ” in 2009 as well as a critical and journalistic piece entitled ” Reaksionari ” published in 2015. He speaks Italian and English.
Mr. Gjekmarkaj is appointed as a member of the Audiovisual Media Authority on 22.07.2016.
